About

EVE, a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization, began in 1979 as a grassroots effort by area women and service providers to aid victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In 1982, EVE began to provide emergency shelter to victims of family violence in a three-bedroom home. In 1994, EVE acquired a larger facility that allowed the organization to increase the number of victims it could shelter from nine to thirty.

EVE’s programs include emergency shelter, a 24-hour toll-free hotline, legal advocacy, service coordination, counseling, children’s programs, prevention programs, transitional housing and aftercare, a Survivor’s Loan program, food pantry, educational groups, transportation and clothing, childcare, and referrals to community resources. EVE is one of only a few shelters equipped to shelter men as well as women. This includes adolescent boys who need to enter with their abused parent.

Today, with a budget of more than $500,000, the shelter continues its tradition of providing emergency services to survivors and their families as well as advocacy, transitional housing, counseling, children’s programming, support groups, educational programs, legal advocacy and 24-hour hotline services.
