NOTE: This volunteer opportunity is for confirmed MAPS 2.0 volunteers who will be serving with Alder Elementary and the organization Greater Than through weekly food box delivery. You will use this service opportunity to track your orientation and volunteer shifts and log the hours you have served.

Position Description:

Greater Than is leading the charge of providing food boxes, clothing, and educational materials to the residents of the Alder Elementary community. By joining this program, you will have the opportunity to assist with the preparation and distribution of many vital resources to members of the community in need through weekly or bi-weekly shifts. You will also have the opportunity to assist in consistent one-time events throughout the year that will assist the Alder community in many ways.

If you feel the need to get off the computer and out of your chair, come help children and families! Greater Than and SCEC have committed to making this in-person volunteer opportunity as safe as possible to stop the spread of COVID-19.


Requirements

  • In-person

  • Where: Throughout the Alder Community - SE148th Ave to SE 202nd Ave

  • When: Every other week throughout the summer on Wednesday mornings and/or Thursday afternoons.

    • Wednesday shifts (2 volunteers needed): 10:30am - 12:30pm on the following dates: June 23rd, July 21st, August 4th, August 18th (no food delivery the week of July 4th)

    • Thursday shifts (3 volunteers needed): 2:00pm - 4:00pm on the following dates: June 24th, July 22nd, August 5th, August 19th. 


Qualifications:

  • Be enrolled at PSU for each academic term during the 2020-21 academic year.

  • Maintain institutional an undergraduate GPA of 2.0 or a graduate GPA of 2.5

  • Interest in physically delivering vital resources to families residences -- having transportation to do this will be helpful.

  • No prior experience needed - Packing/Warehousing experience may be helpful, as well as the ability to speak Spanish or another language.
  • Ability to model leadership, professional behavior, and be a strong role model

    The MAPS 2.0 program is a program of the Student Community Engagement Center. The Student Community Engagement Center's mission is to provide robust and varied co-curricular opportunities for all students at Portland State to engage with the community and become catalysts for change.
